Is hiring from tech the fastest path to an AI-ready workforce?

Building an AI-ready workforce comes down to two levers: hiring and diffusion.

On hiring, tech is your strongest talent pool. AI productivity gains are already mainstream there, 68% of tech workers say AI improved their productivity, hitting 85% among super users. Compare that to government (33%/74%) or healthcare (37%/70%), and the fluency gap is clear.

On diffusion, almost every non-tech sector shows a wide gulf between super users and everyone else, signalling significant untapped potential:

  • Energy: 49% vs 78%
  • Manufacturing: 49% vs 77%
  • Transport: 39% vs 68%

Hiring AI-fluent talent can jump-start progress. But the bigger prize is spreading those gains beyond power users and that takes more than tool access. It requires workflow redesign, the right incentives, and strong management.

Exhibit showing that 85% of tech employees are AI "super users" that report significantly more productivity gains than other sectors.
